Better Hearing & Speech Month, 2012
Chances are you have a loved one or know of someone who has needed the services of a speech-language pathologist (SLP). Perhaps you have even needed our help whether as a child or rehabilitating communication or swallowing deficits as a result of an illness or accident.
Our national organization, the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), dedicates the month of May to Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM). SLPs and Audiologists around the globe use BHSM to bring awareness to our very important and essential fields of practice. There is a wide array of reasons as to why someone may need to seek our help (e.g., developmental speech-language delays, apraxia of speech, Autism Spectrum Disorders, neurogenic speech disorders, swallowing dysfunction, etc.). To learn more about SLPs and Audiologists’, visit ASHA.
Our office is promoting BHSM in various ways through providing educational resources to parents and families in our waiting room, updating our business Facebook page and making posts on our page to share tidbits and videos that can help/be enjoyed by the public. Also, for every ‘like’ we get on FB during the month of May, our practice is donating $1 to our 2012 charitable organization, the Northwest Children’s Fund which helps fund services and programs for neglected and abused children.
It is with such pride, passion and honor I, along with all of the therapists in the practice, promote our Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs) and expertise. Although technology is everywhere we turn, nothing will ever (or should ever) take the place of good ‘ole face-to-face conversation. Our field will never go obsolete.
